Blue Devils Fall to Wausau in Extra Innings

July 19 — A walk-off left Marshfield Legion Post 54 on the wrong end of a 7-6 defeat to Wausau on Tuesday. The game was tied at six with Wausau batting in the bottom of the eleventh when there was an error, scoring one run.

Despite the loss, Post 54 did collect nine hits in the high-scoring affair. Unfortunately, Wausau had 14 hits on the way to victory.

Marshfield captured the lead in the first inning. Austin Palecek's sac fly scored one run for Post 54.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, Wausau tied things up at six. With one out in the eighth inning Zach Raeder drove in one run when he singled.

Payton Nelson earned the win for Wausau. He pitched two innings, surrendering zero runs, zero hits, striking out three, and walking zero. Connor Jasurda took the loss for Marshfield. He tossed three and a third innings, surrendering one run, two hits, and striking out three.

Grant Hill started the game for Wausau. He threw eight innings, allowing six runs, eight hits, striking out six, and walking one. Jake Brueggen started the game for Marshfield Legion Post 54. He tossed seven innings, giving up four runs, eight hits, and striking out two.

Paul Maguire and Ryan Krueger each collected multiple hits for the Blue DevilsMaguire and Jacob Neve each drove in two runs to lead Post 54.

RaederNelsonClay SchultSteve Lewandowski, and Hill each collected multiple hits for Wausau. Raeder went 3-for-5 at the plate to lead Wausau in hits.
