Post 54 FAQ's

Marshfield Post 54 Legion Baseball

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost to play Marshfield Post 54 Legion Baseball?

  • The upfront payment is $700, but as in previous years, there will be opportunities to get up to $400 of your payment back, making the cost to play $300.

How do we get the $400 back?

You have two ways of earning $400 back.

  • Money raffle--Each family will receive 10 tickets upfront. The tickets will sell for $20/each. If you sell all of the tickets, the money ($200) is yours to keep.
  • Volunteer hours—Each family will have the opportunity to volunteer at our junior and senior home games. If a family volunteers 20 hours, $200 will be refunded at the end of the season.

What if my family cannot afford these fees?

What does each player receive with the fee?

  • Each schedule is 30-35 games in June and July. Check out our schedules under the Teams tab HERE
  • Each player receives the following game gear: two uniform tops, one pair of pants, shorts, t-shirt, hat, and belt.

Do I have to live in Marshfield to play for Post 54?

  • No!  Post 54 welcomes all athletes from our surrounding communities of Auburndale, Columbus, Greenwood, Loyal, Neillsville, Pittsville, and Spencer.

What kind of volunteer opportunities will there be?

  • Volunteer opportunities will be available for both the junior and senior home games.  These opportunities include: announcing, operating the scoreboard, keeping the scorebook, selling apparel, working concessions, selling beer, and selling raffle and 50/50 tickets.

What are the age requirements for Legion Baseball?

  • Players must be 13 years of age as of January 1, 2024 to be eligible for the Junior Legion Baseball program. If a player was born in 2005 or 2006, that player must play for the Senior Legion Baseball program. **Players that graduated from high school in 2023 shall play for the last American Legion team they played on. Players shall not be eligible for transfer and their name must appear on a previously approved Legion roster. Players born in 2004 or before are no longer eligible to play American Legion Baseball.

How many players will be on each team?

  • Both the Junior and Senior rosters can be up to 18 players. It is possible that not every player who tries out will make a team.

When does the Legion season begin?

  • Tryouts will be held on Sunday, April 28, and Sunday, May 5, from 11:00-1:00 pm. at Jack Hackman Field.  Please REGISTER for tryouts and attend both dates if possible.
  • Both teams begin playing the second week of June.  See schedules on our Team tab
  • Keep in mind that if a player’s high school baseball team is still participating in the WIAA playoffs, the player may try out, but may not play until his high school team’s season concludes.
  • PLEASE NOTE:  Players making either of the teams will not be issued a uniform until they complete all forms, a copy of the driver’s license or birth certificate is on file, and the $700 fee has been paid in full. Please make sure all forms are completed in Sports Engine by June 6.

Is transportation provided to games?

  • No, players must find their own transportation to games.  Many families carpool as players normally have to arrive to fields an hour to an hour and a half before game time.

Is Legion apparel available?

  • Apparel for players and fans can be purchased at all home games. An online store may be available after tryouts.

What if we have a vacation planned for during the season?

  • We understand that summer means family vacations.  We do ask that players let their coaches know as early as possible of when they will be gone for any reason.  We hope that you can commit as much of your summer as possible to Legion baseball.  With many doubleheaders and tournaments, a full roster is necessary for our program’s success.
